Presently, Pune is one of the best cities in India in terms of liveability. In the past, during the time of Maratha Rule, Pune served as the capital of the Maratha Rulers, the Peshwas.

Pune consists of a considerable number of places to be visited. We have listed below a few of them:

Shaniwarwada: It is a historical fort that was the seat of the Peshwas till 1818. Maratha Imperial Architectural Style was followed while building up this fort. It was made partly of stone and partly of bricks, though, only the stone base has survived till now.

Aga Khan Palace: The Aga Khan Palace was made by Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan III in Pune to help out the famine-hit people near Pune in 1892. Historically, however, the Aga Khan Palace gained significance as the place where Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned during the Quit India Movement.

Sinhagad Fort: The Sinhagad Fort is believed to have been built around 2000 years ago. The fort provided natural protection to the city and is famous for the ‘Battle of Sinhagad’ which occurred around 1670.

Pataleshwar: The Pataleshwar Cave Temple is a rock-cut cave temple built during the 8th Century. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
