Jaisalmer is called as the golden city because of the beautiful yellow sandstone architecture of the place. The Jaisalmer Fort and other buildings inside the fort appear matte gold from a distance and add inexplicable grandeur to the desert surrounding Jaisalmer.

Raja Rawal Jaiswal founded Jaisalmer in the year 1156 CE and established it as his capital. It gained importance because of its vantage location falling along the trade routes connecting Persia, Egypt, and Africa with India.

The massive Jaisalmer fort looks like a dream castle rising above the sea of sand dunes. The 99 bastions stand as testimony to its glorious history of the past. Inside the fort, there are palace museums, Jain temples, old Havelis and shops selling handcrafted items.

The Fort Palace Museum exhibits a gallery of 15th-century sculptures made from yellow sandstones and stamps from the former Rajput states.

The Patwa ki Haveli and the museum display intricate stonework which gives you a vague idea about the craftsmanship of the workers that worked on designing the Havelis. The artifacts date back to the 19th Century.

The beautifully carved Jain temples dedicated to the Tirthankaras are built-in Dilwara style of architecture.

The visit to the golden Jaisalmer will remain as an unforgettable experience.
